Match Report - L3's v Wicklow (07/10/17)

October 10, 2017

An early start did little to dampen the Ladies 3rds spirits when they travelled  to a 10 am match in Wicklow on Saturday. Unfortunately coach Ruth McDonagh could not be there in person but was definitely there in spirit, in text ,on whats app and so there was no chance we could slacken off in her absence. Many thanks to Laura Mc Carthy who took over the reins and kept us on our toes! Also thanks to Yani who gave up her morning to ref.

Caoimhe Guilfoyle got things off to an excellent start with a cracking goal in the opening minutes. The Bray midfield, Erika Duggan, Michelle Lambert, Kate Brooks, Juliette Kinghall and Clare Murray worked like a well oiled engine, tirelessly continuing the assault on the Wicklow defence. Their keeper pulled off some dramatic saves but had no answer for Samatha Speidel when she fired the ball into the net for Brays second goal. The third scoring opportunity came when Michelle Lambert, in textbook style, deftly deflected a short corner strike from Caroline Kennedy. The fourth goal was all about style when Sarah Martin took the ball on her reverse and hit the top right corner. In hindsight it was just as well it went in as her teammates were all standing admiring it!

At half time we knew Wicklow would start strong but defence, Trish Martin, Niamh Byrne, Mairead Mahon and Caitlin Evans dealt easily with the challenge. After 15 minutes Bray were back in control and when given the opportunity on a short corner Juliette Kinghall made no mistake when her shot thundered past the keeper. Skilfull play from Nuala McGann and Aisling Dalby afforded Caoimhe Guilfoyle another scoring opportunity and true to form it was an opportunity not to be squandered!

Despite the 6-0 scoreline this was a hard fought match and  one the squad should be proud of. Onward and upwards!
