Last night nearly 30 newly recruited volunteers took part in the Hockey Ireland 'Stepping Stones 2' workshop in TempleCarrig School.
The Stepping Stones courses is a classroom based, non-certified session that all volunteers and coaches can attend regardless of level of qualification. The focus last night was around coaching our 10-12 year olds. It details the key techniques, coaching points, games and exercises to be used with this age group as per the Hockey Ireland ‘HookedforLife’ Program. Basic tactical understanding will be explained along with an overview of how to tackle the key considerations and challenges of early tactical awareness, focused around the Super 6’s format for this age group.
Whilst the weather didn’t go our way, we were fortunate to have access to the sports hall, where Kenny talked the group through some key basics such as how to hold a hockey stick, positioning of the ball, 1 v 1’s and 2 v 1’s.
A huge thanks to Kenny for coming out last night, to Sarah for organising and Sharon and Ruth for coming along to assist and of course to our 3 TY and Gaisce students for demonstrating their skills to the group. Feedback from the parents was really positive:
“Thanks so much for tonight, great insight and tips”
“Thanks for this evening. Appreciate how much goes into it all!”
We hope to run another course soon. If you are interested, email us here to express your interest.
