Match Report! L2s v Genesis 2nds Div 3/4 Cup (11/11/17)

Bray L2s v Genesis 2nds (2-2, 0-3 after flicks; Vickey Coen & Claire Prendergast)

The Ladies 2s faced Genesis 2nds, a division 3 side in the first round of the Div 3/4 cup on Saturday. Expectations were high following a comprehensive mid week win in the league and the team were fired up from the whistle. Bray started brightly with a lot of attacking hockey and with 10 min on the clock Amy Armstrong found Vicky Coen in the D, who calmly slotted home to take the lead. Bray continued to play some lovely hockey with Emer Reilly, Luca Dunne and Rachel Anglin dominating the midfield. Rhona Baker had her shot saved by the goal keeper with a one on one and  Dianna Dunne was unlucky not to make it 2-0 with a great strike from a short corner. The Bray defense kept the young Genesis forward line at bay until a slip in concentration led them to equalising towards the end of the  fist half.

A fiery team talk from Niamh sent the team out for the second half full of determination. With only 2 minutes gone Captain Claire slotted neatly home after some fantastic play from Luca Dunne down the right hand side. Genesis pressured the Bray defense on several occasions and even with one of our players making their way to the sin bin they still couldn't find a way through the solid defense. Unfortunately, despite keeping out numerous short corners, Genesis found the back board with 2 minutes to go taking the game into extra time.

Bray had the better chances in extra time and were unlucky not to seal the win within the first five. With neither team scoring we went to flicks and we went down 3-0. A great team effort by all and now to concentrate on the league.

Thanks to Ross for umpiring, Niamh for coaching and all the supporters!
