Bray 1 Three Rock Rover 2 (Emma Paul)
An away fixture to Three Rock 1s was never going to be an easy task but Bray Ladies 1st XI were confident ahead of the 11am push back. Bray were boosted by the addition of school girls Eimear Martin and Emma Paul who, despite the early start, arrived in time from school games. The tie began at a fast pace and quickly Bray were under pressure from TRR who moved the ball quickly across the pitch and moved into the Bray circle and secured two short corners in quick succession as well as a number of free hits. It was from two of these set plays that TRR scored two goals and with just ten minutes on the clock, Bray were in a uphill battle.
Player coach Cheryl O’Toole, just weeks after surgery, came on and immediately settled in and controlled the play. A quick pass to Captain Charlotte Willis through the centre put Bray on the attack and a free out intercepted by Emma Paul was cooly converted after beating two defenders and the goalie. Bray were back within reach of TRR. An untimely injury to O’Toole meant her comeback was short-lived, less than five minutes, but Bray continued to build on what she started for the remainder of the first half and began to come into their own game more and more. Charlotte Carney tormented the TRR defence with pace and skill. The second half was end to end with both teams unable to get that final touch. A frustrating loss for Bray who must now dust themselves off and march on to meet UCD 2s this Saturday at Loreto Bray at 3pm.
