Bray L3s 4 - 0 Avoca 4s
The Ladies 3’s began their second half of the season against the old rival Avoca in Sion Hill. Bray started off the first half with high intensity in a very fast paced game. There was some lovely play between Juliette, Clare and Michelle in mid-field and Bray spent a lot of time in the Avoca circle and kept on testing the Avoca goalie. Eventually, a lovely pass into the circle found Ali who had a superb strike on the goal and got the thirds first goal of 2018. Bray continued to put the pressure on with great runs by Ali, Aisling, Morgan and Louise upfront. They won a short corner a minute from the end of the first half. Caroline made a switch to Michelle who found the back of the net making it 2-0.
The half time team talked by Coach Ruth inspired the team to lift the tempo and intensity of the game. Bray had more controlled play, with some fantastic play between Jane, Juliette and Michelle in mid-field. A short corner, saw Caroline take on the Avoca defenders and she made a cracking strike to find the backboard to make it 3-0.
Bray’s defence were tested by Avoca but they were able to withstand the pressure. There was a brilliant save by Trish and an oscar winning dead pan facial by Sharon when the ball hit her hard. Caitlin made some fantastic tackles to stop Avoca getting through as they continued to pile on the pressure but there was a line save by Hardy followed immediately by a second save on the line by Caroline. The solid defence work of Caroline, Hardy, Caitlin, Sharon and Trish ensured Avoca were denied any goals.
Bray continued to play at a high pace throughout the remainder of the match and Michelle made a fantastic run from the halfway line leaving some of the Avoca players wondering what just happened, she continued straight into the circle with a magnificent shot and scored a goal making it 4-0.
A great start to the second half of the season and well done to Sharon for winning player of the match. A huge thanks to Caoimhe G. who got injured at training on Thursday but supporting us from the side-lines today. A big thanks also to Jane, Morgan, Sharon and Louise for stepping up to play and thanks also to our coach Ruth for all her hard work with the team.
