Bray ladies 3rds travelled to Navan on a wet Saturday morning to face the opposition on their grit pitch. It took a little while for everyone to get used to the bouncy pitch however Bray's determined defence line; Caroline Kennedy, Niamh Byrne, Caoimhe Hardiman and Clare Murray, made sure to keep Navan out of their circle.
Distributing the ball hard to the midline; Helen Kingston, Michelle Lambert and Juliette KingHall, the defence played strong. Michelle dribbling the ball dodging the uneven surface managed to cross the ball beautifully across the Navan circle finding Alison Dawson on the post, making the score 1-0 to Bray.
Making a break, Navan forced their way through our defence, winning a short corner, from which they scored past Bray's goalie Trish Martin with a direct strike from the top of the D. Now with Clare Murray in the midline teaming up with Sarah Martin up front, Bray had another great opportunity to score. Unlucky with a little flick from Sarah being saved by the Navan keeper, Alison's quick reactions saw the ball find the back of the net bringing the score to 2-1 at half time.
Beginning the second half as they ment to go on, Bray's Jane Farrell, Helen Kingston, Juliette KingHall and Aisling Dalby passed brilliantly around the Navan players, creating space and gaining ground.
Continuing to dominate play, Sarah Martin, Alison Dawson and Samantha Speidel made runs and switched positions created more goal opportunities, however Bray were left disappointed, unable to connect on the post a few times. With balls flying up the pitch from Caroline Kennedy in defence, through Juliette and Helen in the centre, Bray created numerous short corner opportunities, however the score remained 2-1.
As Caoimhe Guilfoyle directed operations from the sideline, Bray felt confident and continued to fight. With great cross-ins from both sides from Helen Kingston and Michelle Lambert and straight in from Juliette KingHall, Samantha Speidle managed to connect with the ball, bringing the score to 3-1. Driving the ball in from the midline, dodging several Navan players, Jane Farrell upped the score to 4-1 with a superb strike from just inside the D. With Caroline Kennedy, Niamh Byrne and Caoimhe Hardiman acting as a wall against the Navan team, Trish had little to do to keep anymore balls passing her.
As Juliette KingHall and Clare Murray continued to hit balls into the Navan circle, Bray's forwards Aisling Dalby, Sarah Martin and Alison Dawson endlessly moved in the D, Ali connecting beautifully scoring a hattrick, bringing the final score of the match to 5-1.
A huge thank you to Saoirse Guilfoyle for umpiring and Caoimhe Guilfoyle for acting coach in Ruth's absence.
