Bray Ladies 2s were up at the crack of dawn to travel to Santry for their first game V Trinity. A determined Bray side pushed high from the first whistle hoping to score that early goal. It came when Sarah Martin found Juliette King-Hall who smashed the ball into the goal putting Bray 0-1 up after 5 minutes.
The defense of Clare Murray, Sinéad O’Toole, Caoimhe Hardiman, Laura Stewart and Emma Healy in goals worked tirelessly trying to keep the Trinity side out of their half but their high attacking play unfortunately found gaps on two occasions allowing Trinity to take a 2-1 lead.
Bray came back fighting and the midfield of Niamh Baldwin, Helen Kingston and Juliette used the width well finding each other for some lovely 1-2s. A well placed ball from the centre found Samatha Speidel who took the ball from the halfway line (again) dodging two players on her way and found the backboard bringing it back to 2-2. Trinity pressed high and managed to have scoreline at 4-2 when the halftime whistle blew.
Bray knew what they needed to do after coach Doug Keeley’s motivational half time talk. Eimear Martin and Emily Wray showed their strength in the centre distributing the ball from left to right opening up the play and creating lots of goal chances for Bray. Sarah Martin showed her determination to get a goal and managed to bring the score up to 4-3. This lifted Brays spirits and it gave them the extra fire in their bellies that they needed. Trinity didn’t give up their fight and found a gap to bring them up to 5-3 but Bray knew they didn’t travel all the way to Santry that early to lose three points. They continued to show their fast and feisty spirit with Samantha, Alison Dawson and Kathy O’Toole teaming up well and finding a Trinity foot to win Bray’s second short corner. Another goal came when the ball was pushed out to Juliette at the top, switched to Helen who smashed it past the goalie to bring Bray up to 5-4. With 10 minutes to go Bray took every chance they had and found another foot winning Bray’s 3rd corner of the match. The ball went out to Juliette and straight to the backboard bringing it to a tie. The whistle blew and the final score was 5-5.
Massive thank you to Doug for all his hard work and to Luca for umpiring.
