Bray 1 Wexford 0
On Saturday afternoon Bray came out determined to win three points from Wexford. The team changed up their warm up to get themselves pumped which most certainly worked. From the beginning there was not much between Bray and Wexford. The two sides were very tight. With bray playing into the sun we were under severe pressure from Wexford for the first five minutes. The defence of Laura Stewart, Clare Murray, Sinead O Toole, Caoimhe Hardiman and Emma Healy in goals were very tight and worked as unit to keep the game scoreless. Bray then settled and started to play their game with great passes between the mid field and forwards. Kathy, Laura and Juliette were doing great passing up the right hand side of the pitch putting a lot of pressure on Wexford.
The forwards had many great opportunities with runs from Helen, Sam and Kathy, however Wexford's goalie was not letting anything through with phenomenal saves which left the game 0 0 at half time.
Bray were reluctant to let the tempo drop at half time. The team were buzzing and knew there was a goal to come. Bray had so many chances and short corners which Wexford defended extremely well. Bray were dominating the second half with a lot of lovely play between the mid field and forwards. The forwards were doing great runs down the line and Samantha was running rings around the defenders with how quick she is. Bray were solid in defence resulting in Wexford winning nothing in the circle. With a few minutes to go the game was still very tense and both teams were determined to get the win. Bray fought right to the end. They spent the last 3 minutes in Wexford's circle with opportunities.
Bray won a short corner and straight after the final whistle blew. Bray brought their entire team up. We knew the pressure we were under. We knew 1 point was not enough. As a team we discussed how important this short corner was and we needed to deliver. We decided to take a gamble and do a straight strike even though the goalie had saved so many all of the game. With a solid push out from Emily Wray to the top of the d were Juliette King-Hall struck and hammered it into the left hand corner Bray won the game 1 0. Bray were delighted to get the three points that they fought for it to the last second of the game and kept their composure under serious pressure.
A big thank you to our coach Dougy for all his hard work and for all the bray supporters who came to watch.
