Match Report! L2s v Skerries (8/12/18)

December 11, 2018

On a cold and windy morning Bray ladies 2’s were up early to travel to Skerries for their first cup match of the season. Following the 3-0 loss against the same team last week Bray were extremely determined to give it their best! From the start bray came out strong and motivated. The defense Laura Stewart, Sinead O’Toole, Clare Murray, Kim Leonard, Emma Healy and Niamh Baldwin fought hard throughout the game not letting Skerries score and keeping them well out of the circle. Unfortunately half way through the first half Skerries made a quick break and scored their first goal. Bray kept their heads up and kept putting pressure on the other team.

In the second half Bray worked extremely hard getting the ball up in their half. With the midfield Helen Kingston, Clare Holland, Laura Butler and Alison Dawson working the ball around the Skerries players with their excellent 1-2 passes. This hard work clearly payed off when Bray won a short corner. Juliette King-Hall had a great pass to Niamh Baldwin who struck the ball into the goal making it 1-1. The battle continued throughout the rest of the game with the forwards Sam Speidel, Emily Wray, Juliette King-Hall and Tola Adebisi working their best up in the circle trying for another goal. Towards the end of the game Skerries won a short corner where they took a shot that hit the back of the net. Bray were not going to let this affect them so they fought back and scored a great goal where Juliette gave a striking pass to Tola who was there ready on the post to score the goal. The match ended shortly after this which made the score 2-2 before we went to 1v1s.

After the full time whistle Bray had to prepare themselves for the shoot outs. It took a lot of courage for Sam, Laura, Emily, Clare and Alison to put themselves forward for the 1v1s who gave it their very best. Well done to Bray’s keeper Emma Healy who played superbly throughout the game. When it came to 1v1s she gave it her all and made some amazing saves against Skerries. Bray took the 1v1s to sudden death where unfortunately they were beaten 6-5. It was an overall exciting and great game. Thanks to our super Coach Doug who continually coaches, encourages and supports us all the way through.
