Bray 4 - 1 Botanic
Bray ladies 2nds started 2019 with a re-scheduled match vs Botanics. Bray began with a fiery beginning with the mid-line Niamh Baldwin, Sarah Martin and Helen Kingston connecting well amongst themselves and spreading it wide to the wings Samantha Speidel and Alison Dawson. Ali, at full speed, dodged the Botanic defense to bring the score to 1-0 with a cracking shot from the left top of the D.
Bray’s defense Clare Murray, Laura Butler, Laura Stewart, Yani Scully-Lane and Caoimhe Hardiman were kept on their toes by debuting goalie Clare Holland giving instruction from behind. Again, Bray kept pushing forward. Jane Farrell, back from injury, maintained control in the middle of the pitch, linking nicely with Juliette KingHall who brought the score to 2-0 with a smashing strike from the top of the D straight past the Botanic goalie. Half time came soon after Bray’s 3rd goal - a second score for Juliette with a perfectly executed short corner.
Wise words and constructive encouragement from Coach Doug were received by the girls as they loaded themselves with some much needed sugary treats. The second half commenced with the Bray side eager to maintain their lead. Unfortunately with a lapse to concentration and fight, Botanic won a short corner, converting to make the score 3-1. Again, when the re-start whistle blew Bray were full of attack. Clare Prendergast, Juliette, Sarah and Helen connected seamlessly while Ali and Sam dragged their Botanic shadows in circles, creating space for more opportunities on goal. A final short corner for Bray proved that all the practiced moves were worth it - the score turning to 4-1, a Hat-rick for Juliette. Botanic didn’t give up, however Bray’s two Laura’s and two of the three Clare’s along with Caoimhe Hardiman kept their defense tight, not giving them a chance to score.
A great start to the second half of the season with Bray 2nds taking 3 points moving up to 7th position on the table. A huge thanks to Yani for her tireless clearing of the ball in defense and Clare P for all her running upfront - both giving up their Sunday afternoons to play with us. Thank you to all the support on the side line - always much appreciated and welcomed.
