Last Saturday, 2nd March Bray Hockey club held a fundraiser in aid of Baby Juniper in The Martello Bray. We had an amazing turnout of club members, friends and family members.
The Ladies 1sts squad took the lead organising a Games Night with a raffle and auction also taking place with the aim to raise a target of €4,000 for Baby Juniper and her parents Jessica and Sean. An additional aim was to raise awareness of SCID and get people to sign the petition to bring in screening for SCID at birth.
Just before Christmas, Juniper was diagnosed with the rare and life-threatening genetic condition known as SCID, or Severe Combined Immunodeficiency. This has left Juniper with no immune system, therefore the inability to fight off infection. Juniper has recently had a bone marrow transplant to save her life and has been doing really well since then. The treatment plan to save requires Junipers family to stay in the UK for up to six months and Bray Hockey Club wanted to play their part to help alleviate any financial pressure for her parents while they embark on this difficult journey.
We are delighted to announce that the total raised on the night was a whopping €4,033, just exceeding the target we had set.
Juniper's parents have sent the biggest thank you to everyone who played a part in helping raise this great amount. They are so grateful for all the support, donations and signing of the petition and have asked for everyone to continue sending positive vibes over the coming weeks as they wait for the new cells to come in.
The Ladies 1sts would also like to thank everyone who got involved in anyway possible. To the team who organised the raffle, auction and games, the girls who looked after the entry at the door, the Martello for their generous support on the night, Wicklow Voice for designing the posters, everyone who came along on the night, everyone who sold raffle tickets, who donated prizes and signed the petition. A full list of prize winners can be found below.
